An intense matchup took place last night in Mons Arena as Belfius Mons-Hainaut hosted Vlad Moldoveanu and Demir Insaat Buyukcekmece for the penultimate fixture of the FIBA Europe Cup Group G.
The guests from Turkey were on a mission, as a defeat would have basically meant the end of their qualification hopes and started off with a bang but would be limited to a 5 point advantage, 20 – 15 after the first quarter. After a low scoring second quarter (11-11) and a narrow push in the third, won 18 to 17, Demir IBB did lose the last quarter 20 to 21 but the early lead would prove pivotal as they held on for a 69 – 64 win.
Vlad Moldoveanu was kept on the floor for the better part of the 40 minute matchup (36:48) and finished with 10 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and a +/- of 5 with 12 in the efficiency column. While they are obviously not looking to lose the last game of the group stage, a narrow loss, coupled with a win by Mons-Hainaut in Ukraine would ensure their qualification.
