In a thrilling game of the semi-finals between Cluj and Oradea, U-Banca Transilvania Cluj Napoca have managed to put away CSM CSU Oradea on the 5th and final matchup.
The team started much better than in the previous two games, but with every run, Oradea responded in kind, never slipping out of contention, even when down double digits. It was indeed a magical evening in the “Horia Demian” Sports Hall in Cluj, as a packed house (and then some) carried the team momentum and never once let up the pressure. In light of questionable refereeing, Vlad Moldoveanu played most of his time on the floor in foul trouble, but while some ridiculous decisions from the officials and borderline extreme defense from Oradea held Vlad to a low scoring game, they could not diminish his impact on the game, as he ended up with +10 in the +/- column, second only to Maxym Pustozvonov, who himself left the game with 5 fouls early in the third quarter. Vlad also added 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 extremely important steals that kept the Cluj lead at arm’s length, in roughly 25 minutes of playtime.
Cluj ends up winning 84 – 78 and after an emotionally and physically draining series, will look to get a brief rest before taking on Steaua CSM EximBank in the LNBM finals.
