An intense night over in Gazanfer Bilge Sports Arena in Istanbul as Demir Insaat Buyukcekmece hosted Khimik in the fifth game of the G Group in the FIBA Europe Cup.
With Demir IBB in desperate need of a win to keep their knockout round qualification hopes alive and Khimik’s injured pride of being the only team in the group without a success, we had all the makings of a thriller, and oh what a thriller it was.
The away team started off with a bang and finished the first quarter up by 10, 22 – 12 but it didn’t last long as Demir IBB mounted a strong comeback in the second quarter to tie it all up with 40 apiece by half time. From then on out, both teams would battle for minimal advantage and Khimik once again narrowly won the third quarter thanks to a prayer from half court from Baykan that kept them up by 3, 62 – 59.
The game result came up to the wire as once again Khimik held on to a 3 point lead with just over a minute left, but a dagger 3 from Moldoveanu put the advantage to rest and allowed Demir IBB to chip away as Moldoveanu with some extremely inspired plays and Stojanovski with 4 points, all from the charity stripe would eventually give the home side the win, 80 – 76.
Vlad Moldoveanu was once again a huge factor with 10 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and an efficiency rating of 19 in almost 39 minutes of play.
