Vlad Moldoveanu and the Romanian National Team held their second friendly match against Israel this week, after Friday’s 73 – 63 loss, in preparation for Eurobasket 2017.
Having not player friday evening, Moldoveanu simply dominated the opposition and gave the Romanian side every chance he could, to get a W in this evening’s matchup. As the Romanians fell short late, individually, Moldoveanu was undoubtedly the top performer, with a game high 27 points in just 30 minutes of play, scoring a molten hot 9 of 14 from the field, 100% from the free throw line (as is usually the case) while adding 6 rebounds and 1 assist. He also lead all players with a +/- of 17 for the match.
While the opponents eventually ended up winning the game 85 – 81 , with Golden State’s Omri Casspi scoring 16 points and grabbing 6 rebounds for Israel, it’s more and more clear that Romania is willing but also very capable of competing, and with a few adjustments, could very well be on route towards surprising the other group C teams in the FIBA Eurobasket 2017.
After the game, Moldoveanu stated:
“I’m very happy to see improvement in the way our team is focusing on every single match-up, we’re on a good path and I think that even though we lost tonight and even though it is a friendly match, this is the attitude we need moving forward, if we’re serious about achieving success and overcoming what is surely going to be a very physically and mentally soliciting FIBA Eurobasket. Today we met a great Israel team but every one of our guys remained unfazed, ready to play, ready to compete.”.
