It was a tough night for both Vlad Moldoveanu and the Romanian team as they played Hungary for a place in the EuroBasket 2017 round of 16.
As in the previous couple of games, the Romanians started off great, keeping up with the opponents and just narrowly lost the first quarter 15 to 16 on a late basket from Hanga. Both teams battled on with the Hungarians occasionally nearing double digit leads but every time getting a strong answer from the hosts, lead by an enthusiastic Andrei Mandache, who seemed to always be the right man at the right time. The third quarter headed in pretty much the same direction, with the Romanians slowly gaining on their rivals. Both teams put their best foot forward and late in the game, a layup by Paliciuc saw the deficit down to only 4 points, 71 – 75.
It would not matter in the end as the Hungarians negotiated the final minute of the game much better and finally won 80 – 71.
Vlad Moldoveanu started off with a bang and the game’s first 3 points but would later on need to once more sacrifice offensively to ensure team fluidity and push defensively. Vlad finished with only 5 points but added a strong 9 rebounds and 2 assists in the affair. His current stats for EuroBasket 2017 are 14.5 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists with a 15 efficiency rating and it seems these will be his final stats as an injury is most likely going to prevent him from playing against Montenegro in the last match-up of group C.
